Why there is no letter on this coin

Philadelphia struck the 1922 Peace Dollar, and Philadelphia coins of this period carry no mint mark at all. An empty space at the usual mint mark position (On the reverse, near the bottom left, just below the word ONE and above the eagle's tail feathers) confirms a Philadelphia strike, not a flaw.

What makes the 1922 Peace Dollar valuable

At 51,737,000 struck, scarcity is not the story here. Condition is: well-preserved examples with original luster stand far above the worn majority.

Every 1922 Peace Dollar contains 0.7734 troy ounces of pure silver, currently worth $28.23. That intrinsic value is a hard floor under the price: no matter how worn the coin, the silver inside cannot be graded away.

Context adds the final layer to the 1922 Peace Dollar. The first coins, struck in high relief in December 1921, proved difficult to produce: dies broke and the design did not strike up fully. Owning this date means owning a piece of that story, and demand for the series as a whole sustains liquidity for every issue in it.
